Solo Adventure Ride I Surreal Ride through the Botswana’s Salt Flats – EP. 141
EDITORIAL SUMMARY
This episode of OnHerBike’s world journey centres on a motorcycle ride across Botswana’s Makgadikgadi Pan. The outing is shared with fellow adventure rider Tom, with time for socialising alongside the salt-flat ride.
About this film
Part of the Africa, Round The World series, the film comes from a journey that began in April 2017, when OnHerBike left Australia for a solo ride around the world on a BMW F800GS. The trip was named “Are We There Yet,” reflecting an open-ended journey without a fixed destination or duration. Here, the focus narrows to the Makgadikgadi Pan and the experience of riding there with another adventure rider. The episode also gives space to the social side of travelling together, rather than presenting the ride as a solitary passage.
The journey
The ride takes place at Makgadikgadi Pan, described as one of the world’s largest salt flats. OnHerBike and Tom use Gweta as their base, staying at Planet Baobab Lodge close to the pan. The lodge is noted for its large baobab trees, adding a distinctive setting to this Botswana stop. The film brings together the ride across the salt pan, the nearby base in Gweta and the shared company of two adventure riders. It is one episode within the longer Africa and round-the-world journey, rather than a standalone motorcycle review or travel guide.
What to expect
- A motorcycle ride at Botswana’s Makgadikgadi Pan
