As the Magpie Flies

CURATED CREATOR

As the Magpie Flies

As the Magpie Flies follows Amanda Zito on solo motorcycle journeys, both on and off road. Her films bring together regional travel, backcountry riding and the practical details of camping on the way.

About the creator

Born and raised in Montana, Zito moved to Portland, Oregon, in 2010 to study illustration at PNCA, where she earned a BFA. Her channel draws on a wide range of motorcycle travel, from routes through familiar western landscapes to multi-part off-road trips. Montana features in journeys to Yellowstone, remote terrain and forgotten towns; Idaho provides the setting for an extended Backcountry Discovery Route series. Across these films, travel is not treated only as a line on a map: campgrounds, changing conditions and the work of making progress are part of the experience. That grounded attention gives the channel room for both the scale of a landscape and the practical choices involved in riding through it.

What to expect

The library combines episodic road-trip documentaries with shorter, self-contained guides to adventure travel and motorcycle camping. Viewers can follow a route section by section, from backcountry riding and campsites to rain, difficult days and the costs of an Idaho trip. Other films turn to Montana’s roads and the Oregon coast, while gear-focused videos consider what works for camping on a motorcycle. The result is a varied record of journeys rather than a single kind of ride: open-road exploration sits alongside off-road challenges and practical preparation. For visitors seeking motorcycle travel films with a clear sense of place and an honest interest in the realities of the road, As the Magpie Flies offers a considered route into the landscapes of the American West.
