I DON’T Think We’re ALLOWED To RIDE Here.. (Chile Valle de la Luna Honda Motorcycle) – ep41

Pedro Mota 15:20 April 2019

EDITORIAL SUMMARY

In this episode of America – Patagonia to Alaska, Pedro Mota rides his Honda Transalp around San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. The journey combines a return to the mountain landscape around Geiser del Tatio with a more unusual ride into Valle de la Luna, where a closed road has become a slope of salt.

About this film

The film follows Mota and his custom Honda Transalp, which he calls Alp, on a day of riding in northern Chile. It comes after a descent from the mountain during which he experienced altitude sickness. After sleeping until noon, he heads back up the mountain to visit Geiser del Tatio, though the full activity there takes place in the early morning. A dip in a hot spring pool becomes part of the day before he rides back toward San Pedro de Atacama. The 15-minute episode is part of a series documenting a motorcycle journey from Patagonia to Alaska.

The journey

From San Pedro de Atacama, Mota takes an abandoned, closed-off road into Valle de la Luna, a landscape described as moon-like. The road up the slope has turned into what the film calls a salt river, and the ride becomes an attempt to take the Transalp up the salt-covered incline. This detour shifts the episode from a mountain visit and hot-spring stop to a test of the bike and rider on unusual terrain. The route and challenge are presented as part of the ongoing motorcycle journey through the region, rather than as a separate motorcycle review.

What to expect

  • Motorcycle travel around San Pedro de Atacama
  • A visit to Geiser del Tatio and a hot spring pool
