LOS ANGELES TO LAS VEGAS: My new motorcycle & a roadtrip from California to Nevada

Got2Go 16:11 July 2021

EDITORIAL SUMMARY

This opening ride in Got2Go’s USA cross-country series follows a journey from Los Angeles, California, toward Nevada. Along the way, Lea Rieck introduces her Yamaha Ténéré 700 and rides with friends through the Los Angeles Forest.

About this film

After arriving in the United States without a motorcycle, Rieck looks for a way to travel during a stay of several months with family and friends. When a suitable rental and used bike prove difficult to find, she buys an equipped Yamaha Ténéré 700 from Yamaha USA’s press fleet. The film also introduces Tim, a friend she met in Uzbekistan during her world trip. They visit Moto Classic Garage Los Angeles while searching for a connector to install her GPS. The episode is part of a larger journey described as crossing the United States from the West Coast to Miami, covering 9,000 kilometres, 13 states and 28 days. This ride took place in May and June 2021.

The journey

The road trip begins in Los Angeles and heads toward Nevada. Tim joins Rieck and guides the ride through the Los Angeles Forest; her travel partner also comes along, riding a rented BMW motorcycle with a passenger. The group makes for the world’s tallest thermometer and continues into Nevada, but ends the day in Boulder City rather than Las Vegas. The ride gives this episode a clear destination while leaving room for the company and practical preparations that shape the start of the trip.

What to expect

  • A first look at Rieck’s Yamaha Ténéré 700.
  • A GPS installation search at a Los Angeles motorcycle workshop.
  • A group ride from Los Angeles toward Boulder City, Nevada.
