A Stranger Helped Me Find Fuel | S3 EP25
EDITORIAL SUMMARY
A motorcycle journey through the Peruvian Andes takes an unexpected turn when the rider realises he is dangerously low on fuel. The search for petrol becomes part of a day of mountain riding shaped by local help and demanding roads.
About this film
Part of ADVcharlie’s third season riding in South America, this episode follows a round-the-world motorcycle trip on a modified KTM 790 Adventure S. Its central problem is practical and immediate: fuel is running dangerously low in a remote area of the Peruvian Andes, where there are no nearby fuel stations. The rider turns to local people for help finding petrol in small mountain villages. That search gives the episode a human focus alongside its account of riding through Peru, with the assistance of people encountered on the journey becoming a reminder of kindness while travelling in South America.
The journey
The ride continues through Peru’s mountain terrain, with canyon roads, tunnels through the mountains and wide views along the way. High-altitude riding is part of the day, as are encounters with large lorries and buses on very narrow roads that run beside cliff edges. The fuel shortage makes finding petrol a key part of the route through the villages; the episode then returns to the striking scenery and road conditions of the Andes. These contrasting elements—seeking practical help, taking in the mountain landscape and negotiating traffic on narrow roads—give this leg of the wider South American motorcycle journey its shape.
What to expect
- A fuel search in remote Andean villages
- Canyon roads, mountain tunnels and high-altitude riding
- Narrow cliff-edged roads shared with lorries and buses
