MSA Travel 45:03 July 2021

EDITORIAL SUMMARY

This Southern African travel film brings together three trips through the Cederberg and Karoo, including a substantial journey by motorcycle. Its three chapters also show travel by car and 4×4, while the motorcycle section follows Craig Marshall and Kirsten Fugard through a series of named stops.

About this film

Part of the BCSA – Back Country Southern Africa series, the 45-minute film is arranged around the different vehicles used on its three trips: a Yamaha XT 1200 Z Super Ténéré adventure motorcycle, a Volkswagen Golf Chico and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VX. The motorcycle chapter occupies the largest portion of the film. Other Cederberg scenes include a hike to the Maltese Cross, an exploration of Stadsaal Caves by mountain bike, and a stop at Cederberg Oasis Backpackers and Camping.

The journey

The motorcycle chapter ranges from Mount Ceder and the Rooibos Tea Route to Wupperthal to stops around Nieuwoudtville, including the Quivertree Forest. The journey continues through Calvinia and the Tankwa Karoo, then follows the R356 towards Sutherland. Further listed stops include the Klein Karoo, Calitzdorp and Montagu. Guesthouses and a camp appear among the chapter’s named locations, giving the trip a mix of riding sections and overnight stops.
