About this film
Part of Got2Go’s EXPEDITION NORTH series, the film belongs to a longer journey from Switzerland to Nordkapp with a travel partner. The trip is described as a 12,000-kilometre route through six countries, made between July and September 2020. In this episode, the focus is Norway: its fjord roads, the traditional district of Sogn and the history surrounding Balestrand. The ride is made on a BMW 1200 GSA.
The journey
After setting out from Bergen in rainy conditions, the route crosses the island of Radøy on smaller roads and continues to the historic municipality of Gulen. From there, the journey reaches Gulenfjord, then moves on to Sognefjord. After finding a ferry, the ride follows the fjord on a road from Larvik to Balestrand. The episode also turns toward the village’s architecture and past: Balestrand is noted for its dragon-style houses, including Saint Olaf’s church, and for the Kviknes Hotel. A chair associated with a German emperor provides one point of connection to the film’s history tour.
What to expect
- Small-road riding across Radøy and onward to Gulen
- A ferry and a fjord-side road toward Balestrand
