About this film
Craig and Kirsten Fugard-Marshall travel from South Africa to explore Georgia, beginning in its historical capital, Tbilisi. The film introduces the city’s old-world architecture and modern-day society before turning to the motorcycle trip. Its itinerary brings together city visits, mountain scenery, historic sites and time in the Kakheti region. Craig filmed, edited and narrated the documentary, with additional footage from Kirsten.
The journey
From Tbilisi, the film visits Kazbeki and Gergeti Trinity Church, then follows the journey through Kutaisi and along the road to Mestia. In the mountains, the travellers hike to Chalaadi Glacier and visit Koruldi Lakes and Ushguli. The story then heads from Mestia towards Vardzia, including the cave-town monastery and Tmogvi Fortress, before a ride back to Tbilisi. Later chapters take in Batumi by train and Sighnaghi in Kakheti, described as the cradle of wine, before returning to Tbilisi for the final days.
