I Left My KTM Behind and Walked towards Machu Picchu | Motorcycle Adventure | S3 EP32
EDITORIAL SUMMARY
A ride across Peru toward Machu Picchu turns into a journey on foot when the KTM has to be left behind. This episode follows the delays, detours and final walk to Aguas Calientes, with the visit to Machu Picchu still ahead.
About this film
Part of ADVcharlie’s round-the-world motorcycle trip on a modified KTM 790 Adventure S, this is an episode from the South America riding series. Its focus is the approach to one of the major highlights of the rider’s time in Peru. The route brings a change of pace: after travelling by motorcycle, the journey continues on foot with only the essentials carried along.
The journey
Roadworks bring a three-hour wait, and an attempted alternative adds 96 kilometres without getting closer to the destination. The ride eventually reaches Cusco, followed the next day by a challenging approach towards Machu Picchu, including a navigation moment when Google Maps appeared to place the route in a river. At the point where the KTM must stay behind, the rider locks it up and walks 10.4 kilometres towards Aguas Calientes. The walk is hot, the two backpacks are a burden, food has been forgotten and the shoes are ill-suited to the distance. On arrival, the planned Machu Picchu route is fully booked for the following day, delaying the visit to the next episode.
What to expect
- A motorcycle journey through Peru, from roadworks and a long detour to Cusco.
- The shift from riding the KTM to a 10.4-kilometre walk towards Aguas Calientes.
- A delayed Machu Picchu visit after the desired route is fully booked.
