About this film
Part of the USA CROSS-COUNTRY series, this episode follows a leg of a 28-day motorcycle trip across the United States. The wider journey covers 9,000 kilometres and 13 states on one motorcycle. Here, the focus is northern New Mexico: a ride through changing landscapes, with stops in Taos and at landmarks that give the area its distinctive character. The film combines road travel with visits to cultural and historic sites, including Taos Pueblo and San Francisco de Asís Mission Church.
The journey
From Chama, the route follows Highway 64 through Tierra Amarilla toward Tres Piedras. The road climbs past Brazos Cliff and through timberland in Carson National Forest, then descends across sagebrush mesa to the Río Grande Gorge Bridge, high above the river. The journey continues into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Taos, where the film visits galleries, Taos Pueblo and the mission church in Ranchos de Taos. From there, the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway leads toward Eagle Nest Lake State Park. The route is presented as a northern New Mexico ride, with mountain scenery and cultural stops along the way.
