PYRENEES FRANCE: The MOST FAMOUS mountain passes in the FRENCH PYRENEES

Got2Go 16:23 January 2022

EDITORIAL SUMMARY

A west-to-east motorcycle ride across the French Pyrenees, linking several of the range’s best-known high mountain passes. Dense fog makes this third Pyrenees journey the rider’s most challenging so far.

About this film

Part of the DESTINATION HOME – EUROPE ROAD TRIP series, this film follows a motorcycle journey made in July and August 2021. The ride begins with a crossing from Spain into the Pyrenees and takes in Col d’Aubisque, Col du Tourmalet and Col de Peyresourde. Along the way, the route passes through towns and mountain communities, with stops that include lunch in Béost and a visit to Eaux-Bonnes. The focus is on travelling through the French side of the range, with the changing mountain scenery and the difficulty of riding in dense fog shaping the journey.

The journey

From Pau, described as a gateway to the Pyrenees, the ride heads into the mountains via the area around Luchon and Béost. It continues through Eaux-Bonnes and the ski resort of Gourette before reaching Col d’Aubisque, where the rider stops for a photograph beside its large bicycle sculptures. After passing through Argelès-Gazost, the route climbs to Col du Tourmalet, then continues via Arreau to Col de Peyresourde. The journey finishes in Bagnères-de-Luchon, known in the description for its hot springs and thermal baths. These stops trace a passage from west to east across the French Pyrenees, with fog accompanying the high-pass ride.
