About this film
Part of the Europe – Netherlands to Baltics series, this episode follows Pedro Mota’s Honda motorcycle travel in Latvia. The central stop is an abandoned Cold War-era Soviet base, described as a former site for shorter-range nuclear ballistic missile launches. Its ruins offer a glimpse of a place shaped by military history, while the ride onward connects the exploration to a gathering of local off-road motorcyclists.
The journey
Near the small village of Klavi, the riders explore the base’s remaining structures, including bunkers that are still intact. They come across a building that appears preserved and another that looks new, prompting the possibility that the site has returned to military use, this time by Latvia and NATO. After noticing security, they leave. The route then continues toward a meet-up with Outduro, an enduro riding and camping crew who invite them to camp and talk.
