Riding with/on Honda Legends in Nagano Japan – Ep21
EDITORIAL SUMMARY
This Japan episode follows a motorcycle gathering in Nagano, where Pedro Mota rides with experienced Honda riders and around-the-world traveller Tsuyoshi Kobayashi. The journey brings together touring on Honshu, a visit to a traditional hot spring and a stop to see the Shiga Kogen snow monkeys.
About this film
Episode 21 in Mota’s travel series, this short documentary uses footage recorded in 2014. The gathering came about after he reached out online and was connected, through a reply from Chris Lockwood, with Kobayashi, who began riding around the world in the mid-1990s and was still riding at the time described. His sticker-covered motorcycle reflects those travels. The film also introduces Yoshio Izumi, an experienced Honda rider associated with the classic Africa Twin XRV750. Izumi designed the V-twin engine used in motorcycles including the Africa Twin and Transalp.
The journey
Mota and the group ride around Nagano on Honshu, a setting the description presents as suited to twisty motorcycle touring. The episode then moves beyond the road: the riders visit a traditional Japanese onsen, or hot spring, and go to Shiga Kogen to see its snow monkeys. These stops place the riding among encounters with Japanese nature and local hospitality, while keeping the Honda riders and their shared experience at the centre of the trip.
