Welcome to Botswana! My First Experience on Okavango Delta – EP. 137
EDITORIAL SUMMARY
A new country and a loose plan set the tone for this Botswana episode in OnHerBike’s solo journey around the world. The ride to Maun brings sandy-road practice, followed by a river outing that takes the adventure off the motorcycle.
About this film
Part of the Africa series, this film follows the rider’s first experience of the Okavango Delta. The wider journey began in Australia in April 2017 aboard a BMW F800GS, with no fixed final destination or duration. In Botswana, there is no set route or checklist guiding the day; the episode instead moves between the practical demands of riding and an invitation from new friends to get on the water.
The journey
On the first day in Botswana, the rider reaches Maun, gets lost and has to practise riding on sand. After time on the bike, she accepts an invitation to go boating and kayaking on a river. The kayak outing covers 25 kilometres, and its narrow design makes for a daunting start. The description presents the trip as challenging and risky, but says the group finishes without a crocodile encounter.
What to expect
- Motorcycle travel in Botswana, including sandy-road riding near Maun.
- A shift from the bike to boating and a 25-kilometre kayak outing.
- A first-person travel episode shaped by an open-ended route and an unexpected invitation.
