[S1 – Eps. 46] BASANTI IS BACK!! – Arrival in Oman

Itchy Boots 10:31 March 2019

EDITORIAL SUMMARY

A long wait in Oman comes to an end when Basanti, an Indian Royal Enfield, is released from its crate at the airport. This episode of Itchy Boots’ India-to-Europe journey follows the paperwork and practical steps that make it possible for the trip to continue.

About this film

Basanti’s return is the focus of this travel episode, after the motorcycle had been away while its temporary import into Oman was arranged. The process involved last-minute stress and an unusually complicated set of formalities: the rider was the first person to temporarily import a motorcycle into Oman. The hotel owner, at the A’Sinamar hotel where she had been staying for two weeks, played a key role in helping bring the process to completion. The film follows this travel interruption through to the moment the motorcycle is back in her hands.

The journey

At the airport, Basanti is taken out of its crate without the need to hire a truck or forklift. Ground staff gather to see the Indian Royal Enfield and help put its panniers back on. The required papers are in order, and the Carnet de Passage receives its stamp. With the motorcycle recovered and ready to travel again, the episode marks a return to the ongoing journey. Its story is less about a stretch of road than about the import arrangements that had to be resolved before riding could continue.

What to expect
